The proposal to have a world-class museum named the Kolkata Museum of Modern Art (KMOMA) was mooted at a high-profile meeting on 27 August, 2006, at the Oberoi Grand. It was chaired by then Chief Minister of West Bengal, Buddhadeb Bhattacharya, who became the chief patron of KMOMA. The programme was followed by a mini art auction.
The Kolkata Museum of Modern Art (KMOMA) is a Trust created and supported by the Government of West Bengal.
